BREWERY

The spirit of the “Cross of Lorraine” – a symbol of non-conformity – displayed on Dieu Donné’s insignia is again held high.  Many in the Cape Winelands may scoff at the idea of producing beer at a wine cellar, but that is exactly what is happening here.

When visiting Dieu Donné, do not miss a stroll past the glass enclosed Micro-brewery.  Experience first-hand how beer is made before enjoying one or two of our draughts while relaxing on the restaurant terrace in exquisite surroundings.

ABOUT OUR BEER

Our beers are brewed in accordance to the reinheitsgebots.

The Reinheitsgebot, literally “purity order”), sometimes called the “German Beer Purity Law” or the “Bavarian Purity Law” in English, is a regulation concerning the production of beer in Germany. In the original text, the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer were water, barley, and hops. The law has now been repealed but many German beers, for marketing purposes, continue to declare that they abide by the rule, to reassure customers that only the four permissable ingredients are used.

The law originated in the city of Ingolstadt in the duchy of Bavaria on 23 April 1516, although first put forward in 1487,[1] concerning standards for the sale and composition of beer.

We source our raw material from local supplier for almost everything the only material that is imported in the Yeast. The Malt in purchased from the Caledon area and the Hops from the Garden Route.

The water used in the production of the beer is natural mountain spring water from underground spring located on the Dieu Donne Farm.

The yeast is imported from the United Kingdom.

Our Brewery is imported from Frohnleiten in Styria, Austria.

The stainless Steel tanks against the back wall are duel function tanks they are used for fermentation as well for storage. These tanks are pressurized with C02 gas so no oxygen can enter the tank.

Because we are brewing micro-brewed beer there are no preservatives in our beer, which means once the beer comes in the contact with oxygen it bring to oxidize and breakdown.

Our beers are pumped from our storage tanks to the Taps in our Main Bar as well as our downstairs satellite bar which services our Terrance area.
